depression in a food-court

I'm excited to continue experimenting with a theatrical type of portraiture, and to stretch my own understanding of when it's necessary to fabricate. The lifeless, melancholy emotion of this displaced figure is staged, and yet I'm drawn to its truthfulness. Although frank and exaggerated here in this empty food-court, this dreamy depression is relatable.

  1. The relationship between color and the title of this image is interesting. I would normally think of an image about depression to have dull colors, but the bright colors along with the subject of depression makes me think more.

  2. Good use of the available lighting within the mall in this image. There are a lot of this going on this image that the eye is drawn to, but my eye always returns to the main subject because of the lighting on his face and back.
